Don’t you just LOVE appetizers? Me too! Sometimes I feel like I’d rather eat appetizers than the actual meal! Here’s how to transform calorie laden and heavy hors d’oeuvres into clean treats that everyone will love.
- Replace regular chips with multigrain tortilla chips or pita triangles for easy dipping. Whole wheat tortillas and pitas also make great substitutes for recipes calling for crescent rolls or pizza dough.
- For dip recipes, increase the amount of vegetables used and replace full fat sour cream and mayo with lower fat versions or low fat yogurt. Use fresh herbs instead of salt for flavor.
- Instead of sugar laden sauces use fresh fruits as the base for a sauce or dip. Add a bit of honey or agave nectar for sweetness.
- Grill, steam or bake ingredients whenever possible instead of frying. You’ll cut way down on fat and calories without sacrificing taste.
